I purchased a home with flower beds already in poor soil. How can I rebuild the soil without pulling out the plants?

It would be difficult to improve the soil without working organic matter into it. You might work on one area of the bed at a time, removing the plants, spreading organic matter over the soil, digging it in, and replacing the plants. The plants will really appreciate your hard work and will reward you with healthy growth and lots of flowers!
