How often do I water the seeds I'm starting indoors? |
The seeds should be planted in barely damp soilless mix (like a wrung out sponge) and then watered or spritzed lightly once to settle the soil and then the pot covered with plastic wrap to maintain the humidity. They should not need watering again until they germinate. When they germinate, remove the plastic wrap to allow for air circulation and keep an eye on the soil. You need to keep it slightly moist but not sopping wet or the seeds and tiny roots may rot. This can mean watering very lightly twice a day if they are in a warm or drafty spot, or in a cooler area maybe just one a day or every day and a half. The best way to tell is to touch the soil and see. With a little experience the soil color and weight of the pot will be a good indicator for you, too. |
