| Some cut flowers such as carnations can be tinted green by setting the stems in green colored water. This happens through the vascular system. Florists often spray tint on flowers to create unnatural effects. Natural flower colors are caused by genetics and can sometimes be enhanced by careful selection and intensive breeding efforts over generations of plants.
