Would using peat pots when planting lima and string beans keep moles/voles from eating the beans?

Unfortunately, in my experience critters will tear right through peat pots if they want the contents. A wire cage around the bed might deter them and allow the plants to grow up through it at the same time. Alternatively you might want to consult with you county extension to verify if you have moles or voles specifically and then determine the best method of controlling them -- in my experience traps are usually the most effective.
