I live in Central Oregon and don't see many hostas but I am wondering if there is a type I can grow that will survive our winter?

Hostas are very cold tolerant so winter hardiness should not be a problem for you. They need shade, soil of at least average fertility, and prefer ample moisture during the growing season for the most luxuriant growth. Their primary potential pest problem is slugs, so that might be a consideration if slugs are a problem in your garden.
