For the last 3 yrs. 4 of our lilacs have had tiny black insects at bloom time. They are planted in a row. ...what pest control would be effective in eliminating them. thanks...

Lilacs can be attacked by scale insects, but these are visible all year around. Without knowing specifically what the pest is, it's hard to make a recommendation for control. How about taking a sample of the problem to your local Cooperative Extension office or Master Gardener Clinic for positive identification and some control options? Contact WSU Cooperative Extension at 206-296-3900 for a list of Master Gardener Clinic locations.
