Generally, such a plant would be purchased in a dormant state and would be planted immediately. If the plant has been indoors and the buds have already begun to open, and if the weather is below freezing, then you will need to protect the plant. You could possibly plant it in a pot and set the pot in very bright light indoors (but in a cool location) until the weather settles.
