I'm wondering what the best type of grass seed would be to plant in sndy loam soil. The lawn I'm going to be starting is located in Idaho, so it's very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Please advise as to the best type of seed to use. Thanks! |
You have a choice between Kentucky Bluegrass and tall fescues. If you enjoy maintaining a lawn and want it to look golf-course green, bluegrass is for you. If you're looking for something a little less demanding, plant Bonanza, Maverick or Finelawn fescues. The advantage with fescues is they have deep root systems. In a sandy soil situation you can expect moisture to quickly percolate downward, which suits the deeper growing roots of tall fescues. |
