The Q&A Archives: Why Won't Seeds From The Inside Of A Green Pepper Bought At The Grocery Store Sprout?
Question: For a science fair experiment, I planted 70 seeds from fresh green peppers and 70 seeds from Burpee seed packets. The Burpee seeds sprouted and are growing well. But none of the seeds from fresh green peppers are growing. Why don't seeds from a fresh pepper grow?
Answer: Usually, peppers mature from green to red and as the peppers mature, the seeds inside mature. Using seed from an immature green pepper would mean the seeds are also immature and will not germinate as a result.
