Is it okay to use translucent (near clear polyethylene) plastic cups for seed starting? Will the light through the cups affect the roots?

Roots shun light so wrap the cups with foil or several thicknesses of newspaper to exclude light. Be sure to punch drainage holes in the bottoms of the cups before sowing your seeds! Without adequate drainage the seeds will quickly rot.
