I own four dogs. I would like to puchase the praying mantis to control the fly population that inevitably will occur during the summer months in New York. I would like to know if the praying mantis will have any effect on my beloved black lab mixed dogs.

A quick review of the literature shows that the praying mantis will not bite people (although it may pinch)and is thus considered harmless to humans in that regard. Unfortunately, I did not find a discussion of toxicity if ingested by either people or dogs. For this reason, I would suggest you consult with your veterinarian as to any possible ill effects the dogs might suffer from these insects.
