What sort of things can be put in your black composting bin that you sell. Can I put grass clippings and old newspapers in in? Also how long does it take for it to break it down into soil? |
You can add almost any organic ie plant materials you have available, although you should avoid diseased or insect infested material and avoid weed seeds. Your composter will work faster if you add a mixture of brown things high in carbon such as old leaves (or newspaper) and fresh green things high in nitrogen such as fresh grass clippings, freshly pulled weeds and vegetable peelings from the kitchen. Cutting the material into small pieces and making sure the overall mix is damp like a wrung out sponge also helps it work faster. The process also speeds up in hot weather, and stops in very cold weather. With a little experience you will see what works best for you. |
