| I have an indoor ficus tree that is about 6 feet tall now. It's in a pot that is about 2 feet in diameter. Within a year of repotting to this huge pot, my ficus is starting to look root bound again. I don't want to keep repotting until I end upw/ some unsightly pot that's bigger than my couch. Any suggestions on how to keep it healthy and growing in its current pot? |
| A container 24" in diameter sounds plenty big for a 6' tree. Ficus often develop extensive surface roots, so it may well be that yours isn't pot-bound all the way down, it just appears so from the surface. If you intend to keep the tree pruned to a height of 6-8 feet, you shouldn't need to repot. Ficus don't suffer--the way many other plants do--from having filled their containers with roots. Plan to apply a dilute fertilizer to the tree once a month during the active growing season--March to September. |
