| I have a scented geranium that I bought in the summer of 2000. It seems very healthy, but when I was moving it recently, I saw a strange green gnarled lump at the base of the main stem at the soil line. Without thinking, I ripped the thing off. It was like a twisty lump, and when I started to cut it apart, it broke apart in chunks. So, what do you think it might have been? Did I help or harm my plant by ripping the chunk off? |
| Based on your description, I suspect what you found was the remains of the typical green, foam or dry sponge textured, rooting medium used to initially root the cutting. Breaking it off would not hurt anything as long as the stem remained intact. |
