I want to border a 4 foot fence with informal 4-5 foot evergreen shrubs. It needs to be a fast grower and if possible dense. I would like flowers or berries but that is not a must. The area reveives full sun all day and the soil retains water. I need to cover about 39 feet of fencing so it also needs to be economical. Any help would be greatly appreciated. SH Howell, NJ |
Unfortunately, most evergreens are both slower growing and thus relatively expensive plants, they also tend to grow rather large. For a smaller evergreen for an informal hedge in moist soil and full sun you might try the native holly, Ilex glabra. This shrub's naturally billowy outline makes a lovely informal hedge. |
