What is the best way to find and select varieties that will mature quickly if you are located in a higher elevation (6500 ft) and a shorter growing season?

Most descriptions and seed packets for vegetables will list the number of days to maturity, and you can simply choose those that mature quickly. Or, they will have names that include descriptive info, such as Early. Smaller sized vegetables will also mature more quickly, such as cherry or mid-sized tomatoes, rather than beefsteaks. Some descriptions may also say that a variety performs well in cool weather or short seasons. I'm not aware of a list of such varieties for short seasons.
