Need to know how to treat Cedar/Appple Rust on an ornamental crab-apple tree. What is the best treatment? Is there some type of spray or oil? When should this be performed? (Tree dorment right now) Don't want to lose this tree. It was planted approx 7 yrs ago. Rust evident and worsening since. Please let me know what to do!!! Thanks!

I would suggest you consult with your local county extension (454-0900) for the recommended spray regime in your area, including what to use and when to apply it. In addition to treating the crabapple tree, you can also scout the area for the cedar apple rust on its alternate host, the junipers. Look for gobs of what looks like rubbery orange jelly on the branches and remove and destroy the globs.
