The Q&A Archives: New Strawberry Plants

Question: I will be starting a strawberry bed this spring. Should I pinch off the flower buds this first year or not.

Answer: The flower buds are usually pinched off so that the plant can devote its energy to becoming established instead of to making fruit, although it is possible to leave them on if that is your preference. In many cases the plants arrive with the blooms already removed, thus saving you the trouble.
