| In general, you would want a rich soil mix that holds moisture yet is well drained (not soggy). Since these plants need evenly available moisture (helps reduce blossom end rot problems and helps keep the plants healthy and productive by avoiding water stress) you might add the water holding polymer granules to your soil mix. In outdoor containers subject to frequent watering and therefore leaching, it is usually necessary to use a water soluble fertilizer and/or supplemental nutrients through compost or applications of compost tea or possibly a fertilizer containing minor nutrients as well as the big three (NPK). Exactly what types to use are usually determined by personal preference. |
