| We planted five Awabuki Sweet Viburnum four years ago and they have not flowered. The bushes have grown to over 8 feet tall. They are planted against a brick wall and receive full sun from late morning to early evening. I've tried several types of fertilizer but none have produced flowers. They are irrigated by a drip system. The plants are otherwise healthy but we purchased because of the lable advertising them as an evergreen flowering bush. What can we do to encourage the bushes to flower? Are they ever likely to flower? |
| I wonder if over-fertilization is the cause? Too much nitrogen will result in excessive vegetative growth, at the expense of flowers. Your viburnums develop flower buds over the summer for the following spring's display. Pruning at the wrong time will remove the flower buds. If none of the above seems to fit the situation, perhaps your shrubs just need a little more time to mature before they're ready to bloom. |
