The best way to control weeds in asparagus: The first defense is to maintain a layer of mulch in between the plants and to "fluff" and/or refresh the mulch periodically as needed. This inhibits weed seed germination in the first place. As a bonus, the mulch helps feed the soil as it breaks down. The next is to promptly remove any weeds that do manage to appear before they set seed or reach such a large size that they become difficult to remove.
