I live about 15 miles north of Baltimore, Md. Saturday 17 March I received my order consisting on asters, peonies and asparagus roots. With the temperature still getting well below freezing at night. When should I plant these items and what is the best way to care for them till I can plant them. |
Bare root materials and plants that are container grown and have been kept outside/conditioned to outdoor temperatures should be planted immediately. This allows them to come out of dormancy and wake up with the season. Hardy plants by definition are not bothered by cold temperatures the way tender annuals would suffer (unless they have been held indoors). |
