I have everbearing strawberry plants that were just planted
in the spring. I would like to mulch them with hay or straw.
When is the appropriate time to mulch for the winter, is straw or hay better, can the mulch be turned into the soil in the spring, and when should the mulch be removed.
Thanks,
Robin

You can spread mulch around your strawberries once the ground freezes hard. That probably won't be until December in your region. Both hay and straw will provide good insulation, however hay will provide more nutrients as it decomposes. You can remove the mulch after danger of frost has passed in the spring.
