Some annuals to consider would include impatiens, begonias, and tuberous begonias. Additional ways to add are color are to use plants with variegated foliage or with foliage that is not green such as caladium, coleus, and variegated forms of English ivy or Hedera helix. Hostas, Japanese painted fern and other perennials such as pulmonaria will also perform very well in shade.
