I'd like to grow garlic in my garden. Can I use store bought garlic, remove a clove, and plant it in late March?

In some cases using grovery store garlic will work, but it is not usually recommended because the commercial varieties (from , say, California) are not necessarily the best types to grow at home in a colder climate. In some instances they have also been treated to prevent sprouting.
