Which is the best ground cover to thrive on a steep hill, facing north, minimal sunlight, with clay soil?

My goal is to stablize the soil from erosion and beautify the front of the house.

Your help and direction is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
CKuhn

Based on your description of the planting area, I would suggest you consider English ivy (Hedera helix) or creeping myrtle (Vinca minor). These are traditional ground covers that should do well in the difficult conditions you described, once they are established.

If the bank is very steep I would suggest you consult with a landscape architect or grading expert before disturbing any existing vegetation and/or the soil due to the risk of changing the drainage patterns, causing erosion and possibly collapsing the bank.
