Thyme seeds can be planted indoors about 8 weeks before the last expected frost. Use a barely damp soilless mix and sprinkle the seeds on top and press lightly. Do not cover them with soil. Mist to settle the soil and cover the pot with plastic wrap. Set the pot in a warm bright location out of direct sun. Watch closely for germination. Once the seeeds germinate, remove the cover and place the pot in very bright light, keep the soil barely moist. Many people find it easier to plant small plants or plugs of creeping thyme, or take divisions from an established patch, than to start it from seed.
