I have started several varieties of tomatoes and peppers, along with a few other vegetables, indoors. I know I'm supposed to fertilize with a dilute mixture after the first true leaves. I had heard that I need to be careful fertilizing grown pepper plants, does that apply to seedlings as well? I had heard that fertilizing grown plants too much would promote foliage and no fruit, but I didn't know when that rule would apply. Thanks! Lori

If you are using a very weak solution, you will not risk overfeeding them at the seedling and transplant size. Once they are in the garden you will want to avoid oversupplying them with nitrogen as this can promote excess leaves at the cost of flowering. How much to use in the garden would be determined by running soil tests. Your county extension should be able to help you with the tests and interpreting the results.
