I would like to know if there is a flowering plant that will thrive underneath pine trees. These pines have had the branches removed about 6ft up the trunk. this leaves an ulgy space that needs something!

It is difficult to plant under mature pines because the trees are such tough competition. Sometimes you can establish a ground covering blanket of English ivy with some spring bulbs growing up through it. Alternatively, perhaps this would be a good spot for a bench and a large container such as a half barrel of colorful annuals.
