What is the difference between an annual and a perennial? I'm just starting to garden and figured that I had better know what these are first:)

Annuals are planted every year. They grow from seed, flower, set seed and die in one season. Biennials grow for one season, live over the winter, then bloom, set seed and die in their second season. Perennials should live for three years or more.
