What type of flowering plants would be best for container growing on a 23rd story balcony that gets about 4-6 hours of afternoon sun but a fair amount of wind? |
The growing conditions you describe are very difficult for plants. The afternoon sun is very hot and the wind is very drying; wind also whips plants mercilessly. If you are able to use an automatic drip watering system along with large containers you might have some success with some of the following flowering annuals, although each would have to be considered an experiment until you see what works for you: portulaca, salvia (red, blue and white), verbena, vinca rosea (also called Madagascar periwinkle), dusty miller, thunbergia, and the low growing zinnia linnearis. |
