Can I grow a dogwood tree from the red seeds on my tree? |
It sounds like you have a Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) since you mention red fruit. Nursery professionals remove the seeds from the fruit and sow them in outdoor beds in late fall (before Thanksgiving). Sow the seeds just under the surface in a prepared bed, and cover with a light mulch of leaves or straw. Mark them well so you'll know it's dogwood sprouting and not something else. One way to simplify this is to fill tiny plastic pots with garden soil, plant the seeds, and sink the pots into the garden. It'll make transplanting easier, too. |
