Willows can be pruned in the spring. All willows are fast growing and you can shorten side branches to direct growth toward the center of the tree. Removing some branches althogether will help control size and keep your willow looking neat and attractive. As with all pruning, remove dead, diseased, crossing, rubbing branches, then prune to shape. Your willow will rebound by developing healthy new growth later this spring.
