My Daffodils and Hyacinths are lovely right now but sadly due to some construction I will have to remove about 100 of them in a couple of weeks, I will be able to replant them this fall. Please tell me the best way I can store them over the summer. Thankyou....Janet |
The bulbs must be allowed to grow and mature and then ripen their foliage in order to rebuild their strength to grow again next time. Since this process can take longer than just a few weeks, you might want to transplant them now to a location where they can grow for the rest of the spring. After they have ripened, you could leave them in place and move them again in the fall or you could dig and store them for the summer. After the foliage fades you would dig them up, clean them off and then keep them in a cool but dry location. Store them in a single layer on shelves or in mesh bags or in small batches in paper bags. They need to have good air circulation and should be checked periodically for mold. |
