I just bought a house, and the yard has one kiwi plant. I know that I need a male and a female in order to produce fruit, but I don't know how to tell which one this is. Can you tell me how I can tell the difference please? I would like to buy the mate so that it can bear fruit.

Thank You.

You're correct - you'll need both a male and a female plant in order to harvest kiwi fruit. Female flowers have a slight swelling (ovary) directly behind the petals where the flower attaches to the stem. Male flowers are straight. It's really difficult to tell which is which unless you compare the flowers of a male and a female side by side. You might have better success if you take a few of the kiwi flowers to a nursery and ask for help in identifying your plant. Good luck with your kiwi!
