The Q&A Archives: White Fungus On Blueberries

Question: A few years ago I lost a blueberry bush to a white powdery substance, its appearing again on another 2 yr old plant. what is it and how do I stop it and or prevent it from reoccuring?

Answer: Unfortunately, based on your description, I am unable to daignose the problem specifically. You might be able to identify it from some of the photos at the following diagnostics page: (All of the photos are displayed at the end of the article, so scroll down to them.)

However, it seems a bit early in the season to be seeing the listed problems. I would strongly suggest you take a sample and possibly a photo of the plant to your county extension (378-1237) for a definite diagnosis of the problem and suggested controls for it. They will access to the most up to date information regarding controls available to homeowners in your area, as well as be aware of blueberry problems that are typical in your area at this time of year.
