Question: I recently bought a new house. However, last fall the grass was not given a final mow before the cold weather set in. Now that its getting a little warm, I was wondering when I can give it its first cutting of the year. I am located in North New Jersey
Answer: You can begin cutting as soon as it begins to grow. Try to mow often enough that you do not take off more than one third the total height at a time. In spring, this can mean mowing more often than once a week.
