I do not wish to cut the cedar trees on my lot because they provide good habitat for the birds. What can I do to prevent the effect of cedars on apples and pears?

Cedars may serve as an alternate host for cedar apple rust, however, it is not strictly necessary to remove the cedars on your property. You might want to contact your local county extension and ask them about the routine preventive spray recommendations for your fruit trees and the best timing for them.
