I am getting different info concerning pansies. Are they a perennial or annual? And will they grow in shade?

Pansies are in the Viola genus, many species of which are perennial but usually treated as annuals. Many will self-sow to return the following year. However, to the best of my knowledge, pansies are always treated as annuals. They tend to get very leggy by the end of the season. They would take filtered light, but need some sun to bloom. In your climate, they will also take full sun. Some violas will take quite a bit of shade, but pansies need more sunlight. Hope that answers your questions!
