Some gardeners will prune their tomatoes to control their size or their weight on the support system. Sometimes it is done to increase the air circulation within the plant to help avoid fungal problems, sometimes it is done to allow more sunlight to reach the tomatoes and help them ripen. It is sometimes done simply as a matter of preference.
