I would like to plant zonal and ivy geraniums in containers that will receive southern
exposure (sun) all day long. Our summers tend to be hot and humid (zone 7). Is there
any reason why geraniums would not do well in this location? What is the best care?

Since your summer weather is hot, you might have better success with both your ivy and zonal geraniums by providing some light shade, especially during the afternoons. A different trailing plant that thrives under hot, humid conditions is lantana. You might want to give it a try!
