can sunflowers be planted in planters? if yes...what type? how deep?

The smaller varieties of sunflowers (four foot or so) may be grown in large containers such as half barrels, and the smallest types such as "Elf" may be grown in a smaller container. Plant the seeds as indicated on the packet instructions.
