I just got some double tuberrose and stargazer lilly bulbs. My friend has been keeping them in the refrigerator and said I should plant then now, and they will come up by june. Does this sound right? Should I keep them and plant them in september instead? Will they bloom this year? thanks |
These are summer blooming bulbs. The lilies should be planted immediately upon receipt, and can be planted fall or spring, so I hope they have not been in the fridge all winter! The Stargazers are a winter hardy lily and should be planted now. They need a well drained soil and a sunny location. Mulch them year round to prevent weeds and provide some winter protection. The tuberoses are not winter hardy in your area. You may plant them after the danger of frost has passed. Plant them about two inches deep in good soil in a sunny location. They will not bloom until fall. To speed things up, you could grow them in a container and plant them a little bit earlier, taking care to provde ample light and protect the pot from cold -- for example, set it outside on warm sunny days and bring it in on cold nights. |
