Can I raise bamboo in the house as a house plant?

There are certain types of bamboo that fare well indoors in greenhouses and conservatories. They need a good amount of sun and prefer a placid, humid environment.

You would be wise to purchase bamboo plants sold as houseplants; some types of bamboo grow to enormous heights and might not be happy in an enclosed space. One type, Phyllostachys aura, common name golden bamboo or fishpole bamboo, will grow to a height of 6 to 7 feet in a container, up to 20 feet in open soil.
