| I have a hill with several natural springs that keeps the area at the bottom wet all the time. This wet area is heavy clay. The top of the hill is along a road where I would like a sound-barrier. I am considering Bald Cypress trees for this area as I have read they grow naturally in wet areas. |
| I think Bald Cypress would be a good choice, as they thrive in extremely wet soil, but can also tolerate dry soil. It is deciduous, which would reduce its effectiveness as a sound barrier in winter. Swamp White Oak (Quercus bicolor) is native to your area and tolerates wet conditions. Willow and poplar take wet soil, but both have invasive root systems, if that is a consideration in your location. American larch (L. laricina) grows in boggy soils, but is a slow to medium grower, but interesting looking. Of course, these trees are deciduous also, but I can't think of an evergreen that thrives in wet soil. |
