Hi,I want to plant some type of hostas around the out side of my deck. They will get sun about three quarters of the day. I was wondering if you could give me a quick rundown of the different hostas, and what type would be good for my needs. Thanks great web site.

Most hostas do not do well with so much sun. They are shade lovers and do well with shade all day or just morning sun. There are many types of hostas, they all have similar growing requirements. Selection is usually based on personal preference in terms of coloration and price.

For a sunnier area, a low maintenance alternative might be the perennial geranium, purple coneflowers, black-eyed Susan, or daylily (hemerocallis).
