I am looking for a shrub that is light green with feathery leaves and turns a fire red in the fall. The shrub is full and somewhat oval shaped. I saw some several years ago and as a joke a friend put glasses on the plant and it resembled Cousin It from The Adams Family. That is the best way I can describe this plant. I would like to know the name of it because I would like to put some around my home.

There may be other possibilities, but the plant that most readily comes to my mind is Acer palmatum, the Japanese Maple. It's slow growing, multi-stemmed, and has an airy and delicate appearance. The leaves are feathery, soft green in the spring, turning to scarlet in the autumn.
