The Q&A Archives: Spanish Flag (mina Lobata)

Question: How long from seed does a Mina lobata take (spanish flag) take to grow? It is the middle of April and I don't know if I have time for it to germinate and grow enough to start vining and blooming by the middle of summer? I just heard about this plant . . .

thanks, jenny

Answer: Spanish flag, also called Cardinal Climber, produces vines that can reach 10'-20'. The normal flowering season is summer through autumn, providing the seeds are planted 2 weeks after frost. If you get your seeds started now, it should bloom for you by mid- to late-summer.
