What type of tomatoes do best as potted plants? I would like standard sized tomatoes but also cherry and plum tomatoe varieties.

Choose smaller or bush varieties for containers. The 'Patio Hybrid' tomato was developed just for containers, but you could also grow determinate varieties such as 'Celebrity', 'Sweet Tangerine', or 'Northern Exposure'. For these last 3, choose a large container--one that holds at least 5 gallons. Plum tomato types such as 'Juliet' and 'Viva Italia' can also be grown in containers.
