| I have a sloping front yard. This spring I seeded the hill with a mixture called slope mix. Lots of wildflowers, oats orchard grass, etc. Should I burn this hillside the first fall to help in germination of the seeding? I was told this will help the wildflowers multiply the 2nd year; I had lots of wildflowers this first spring. |
| It is a common practice to mow a wildflower meadow after the fall frost, to help scatter seeds. I would check with the seed supplier to see if they recommend burning. Although periodic burning on the prairies is a natural process, I don't know if theflowers you are growing are truly prairie flowers. The burning could well destroy the seeds. And of course check with your local fire marshall to check out regulations for burning. |
